Svalbard Ski & Sail – Nanook

May 3-12, 2026

Svalbard Ski & Sail – Nanook

EXPEDITION OVERVIEW

Join us on this intimate and exciting backcountry ski expedition to just 600 miles south of the geographic North Pole.

Spend your days exploring untouched terrain on the remote and beautiful Svalbard. Experience the breathtaking scenery and wildlife that draws enthusiasts from around the globe on this backcountry ski touring and sailing expedition along the west coast of Spitsbergen, Svalbard’s largest island.

This trip is in a truly remote and wild environment with wildlife and glaciated peaks surrounding that offer world class skiing. Travel by ship among the majestic mountains and glaciers that rise directly from the sea, it will be an experience of a lifetime. We will sail to a new location every day using our expedition-equipped vessel Nanook. Travel by boat allows us to access the best ski touring and mountaineering spots in the region. With nearly 24 hours of daylight in the spring, this trip offers full flexibility on our skiing schedule, which we often plan to include a midnight ski!

It is a trip for travelers wanting to experience something unique, wild, breathtaking and beautiful – no matter if you’re an experienced or intermediate backcountry skier or split boarder, we welcome you aboard our Ski & Sail adventure.

EXPEDITION DETAILS

This Ski & Sail expedition is a journey amongst one of the most unique and surreal ski touring destinations in the world, a combination of sea, mountain, and arctic environments. The Svalbard archipelago of over 60 mostly unpopulated islands is a wild and remote place.

The west coast of Spitsbergen is protected by a long, thin island called Prins Karls Island, providing protection from the open sea allowing us to access dozens of fjords with world class skiing with peaks rising 500 to 1,000 meters straight out of the sea. And access is only made possible by boat, an Arctic tradition that has existed over 200 years.

Longyearbyen, with a population of about 2,000, is the northernmost town in the world and is the starting point for our trip. Despite its remote location, Longyearbyen boasts excellent amenities with a town center with bars, restaurants, shops, and museums. SAS and Norwegian airlines have connecting flights direct from Oslo.
