Overview

Join us for a unique itinerary around the spectacular backcountry of Argentina’s San Carlos de Bariloche.

This is a perfect South American Classic combination of skiing the local ski area called Cerro Catedral and adding some fantastic day ski touring in the Bariloche area. Ice Axe will combine this Patagonia experience with a few days in the renowned Refugio Frey Hut. You will be skiing past granite spires and untouched powder with some Patagonia style.

This trip will be led by the legendary Jorge Kozulj, UIAGM-certified Patagonian guide and Ice Axe Expeditions guide since 2009.

Itinerary

Arrival

Arrival to Bariloche and transfer to the hotel. We will do gear checks, get to know everyone and enjoy a nice meal.
Day 2

Warm up day skiing Cerro Catredal, we will do some light boot pack and skinning. Return to our hotel for a great night of Patagonian hospitality.
Day 3

We will ski towards Frey Hut, finding great powder and end up at Frey Hut for 2 nights of homemade pizza, fresh pasta, fondue and local micro brews.
Day 4

We will ski some world class couloirs and venture to some other valleys on exploratory terrain accessing some remote terrain. Night at the Frey Hut for good food and wine.
Day 5

Skiing in the valley near Frey Hut and return to Bariloche for an Asado (traditional Argentine bbq) at the best restaurant in town. Night in a hotel.
Day 6

Drive to Villa Angostura and experience a local town on the other side of the Nahuel Huapi lake. Ski a small resort and access some of the many backcountry bowls. Night in a hotel.
Day 7

Ski tour based on conditions. We could arrange 4×4 to access some great snow, but be ready for an adventure. Night in a hotel.
Day 8

Transfer to airport in Bariloche for departure.

: If any trip must be delayed due to bad weather, cancelled or delayed transportation, sickness or any other situation for which Ice Axe Expeditions cannot make provisions, all costs incurred during such delays must be borne by trip members.
: All requests for cancellations must be received in writing (via email). Cancellations received up to 180 days prior to departure are refunded less an administrative fee of $500 per person, with no exceptions. If cancellation is received between 180 and 95 days prior to departure, the 50% deposit is forfeited. Please note that for cancellations received within 94 days prior to departure, all deposits are forfeited.

If cancellation occurs within the 94-day period and full payment has not yet been received, the full penalty will still apply and unpaid monies are due immediately. If for any reason the voyage on the vessel is cancelled, passengers will not be entitled to make any further claim for compensation or damages, for any loss, consequential damage, expenses, loss of time or inconvenience which may result from such cancellation arising, whether or not such cancellation arises in whole or in part as a consequence of any act or omission of Ice Axe Expeditions or its servants or agents. For these and other reasons mentioned below, passengers are strongly encouraged to obtain trip cancellation insurance.

: We require that you have at least $100,000 in medical evacuation insurance coverage. Your insurance policy should cover ski mountaineering/hazardous sports. We cannot confirm each client’s policy individually; it is your responsibility to make sure your policy will cover you while you participate in your activities of choice on the expedition. We recommend including TRIP CANCELLATION/INTERRUPTION coverage in addition to the mandatory medical evacuation coverage.

: Aerolineas Argentinas has flights serving San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina (BRC) from Buenos Aires and Santiago, Chile. It is recommended to book roundtrip airfare from your home city to Buenos Aires to accommodate for an Aerolineas Argentinas roundtrip flight from Buenos Aires (EZE or AEP) to Bariloche.
