Overview
Journey to the top of the world on an extraordinary expedition to the Geographic North Pole with veteran polar explorer Doug Stoup.
Following in the footsteps of legendary Arctic explorers such as Amundsen, André, and Byrd, this adventure begins in Longyearbyen, Svalbard—the historic gateway to the High Arctic. From there, an Antonov-74 aircraft carries the team more than 600 miles across the Arctic Ocean to Ice Station Barneo, a temporary drifting ice camp established each spring near the North Pole.
After final preparations at Barneo, the team boards an MI-8 helicopter for a flight to approximately 89° North latitude, about 70 miles (113 km) from the Geographic North Pole. From this remote starting point, the expedition begins.
Over the course of approximately one week, you will ski across shifting sea ice, navigate pressure ridges, and camp on the frozen Arctic Ocean while making your way north. Daily progress is influenced by weather, ice conditions, and the constant drift of the pack ice beneath your feet—adding a unique challenge found nowhere else on Earth.
Standing at the Geographic North Pole is a truly rare achievement. Unlike Antarctica’s fixed landmass, the North Pole rests atop a constantly moving ocean of ice, making every journey different. This expedition offers the opportunity to experience one of the planet’s most remote environments and reach a destination few people will ever see.
Important Note: This expedition is currently not operating due to geopolitical conditions affecting access to the region. A tentative return is anticipated in 2029.
